Ragged Island Retreat takes full advantage of its ruggedly beautiful setting. Protected behind a stand of pines, at high tide has a view of sparkling waters. While, at low tide, miles of golden sand banks that are easily accessible by the cottage kayaks. Hence, there are 3 cottage kayaks that guests are welcome to use: two singles kayaks and one double.
The main floor at Ragged Island Retreat has a fully equipped kitchen and an open-concept living and dining room. As well as a guest bedroom, a 4-piece bathroom and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. Upstairs you will find the master bedroom, a second guest room and a bright loft area. The loft is a wonderful place to sit and read or work while enjoying the ocean views. The cottage sleeps six people comfortably with a queen size bed in the master bedroom. Likewise there is a second queen size bed in the downstairs guest room. And, a set of bunk beds in the third bedroom. There is a small TV in the downstairs bedroom that can be used for movie watching only (there is no satellite TV). Also, there is rural broadband internet and WiFi.
Cathedral ceilings, muted paint colours and warm pine paneling all add to the rustic ambiance of this delightful Nova Scotia cottage. Ragged Island Retreat maximizes its views. First, sliding patio doors and large windows flood the house with sunlight. While a large deck with Adirondack chairs and BBQ, extends the living space. So, breathe in the sea air and soak in the natural beauty that surrounds the cottage. It is the perfect spot to get out onto the water, try a little sea kayaking and enjoy the many moods of the Atlantic Ocean.
Location
Ragged Island Retreat is at the very end of private road in the secluded community of East Ragged Island. Overlooking the inner bay, the cottage has a filtered view of crystal waters and golden sands. Utterly private, the cottage overlooks a pristine and beautiful expanse of water, islands and coves in an inner coastal bay.
For a day spent close to home you could go clamming right by the cottage. Take a walk to one of the many nearby swimming spots. Borrow the cottage kayaks and go sea kayaking across the inlet to the sandbar opposite the cottage and then walk to the magnificent three mile long Black Head beach. Or, if all that sounds far too energetic, you could simply sit back and listen to the soothing sounds of the surf; watch birds flying overhead and relax in your own little piece of Canadian wilderness!

“Almost Unbelievable”
We loved loved loved our week here at Ragged Island Retreat! The location is so remote and peaceful, it’s almost unbelievable. We spent the week kayaking, writing and breathing in the wonderful ocean air which wafts in over the salt pond. We are already planning our return next summer and can’t wait!

“A Wonderful Time!”
This is our family’s second time staying here and we enjoyed ourselves just as much, if not more, as last year – our dog Rookie included! When we decided to do another cottage vacation this year, we didn’t even look at any other places – we all knew we wanted to come back to Ragged Island Retreat! Kayaking out to the ocean beach was amazing – the beach is absolutely picture perfect. Louis Head Beach is an excellent place to swim, with very warm water (it was almost tropical!) and soft white sands. We were treated to some very beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and with the full moon to top it all off, we got some frame-worthy pictures that will always remind us of the wonderful time we had this week and the beautiful places we got to see. It makes us feel lucky to live in such a beautiful province! Hopefully we will be back again next year!
“An Amazing Stay”
We had an amazing stay. This cottage is beautiful and very private. We had so much fun kayaking and exploring. We had a lot of fun at the beach ½ a mile down the road. At low tide we walked over to gooseberry island and collected shells. Overall a great stay. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us.
